Client #7: A Community Effort

As we handed the keys of this Sienna to our client Peter*, his Advocate, Lucy was there with us to celebrate. Lucy represented a group of folks who met and befriended Peter’s family shortly after their arrival in the United States and have been helping them ever since. This generous group was following Jesus’ example in making themselves available to people who were in need of help. Their most recent help involved taking Peter and his parents to/from work every day as the family waited for a vehicle they could use to get there themselves.

Peter and his family fled their home country because of persecution and have made a new life here in Dallas, far from the dangers they lived with daily. To make ends meet, Peter and his parents got jobs they were far over-qualified for and work shifts round the clock to make sure there is always someone to take care of Peter’s three younger siblings. With the constant travel, it wasn’t long before the old vehicle they had purchased couldn’t keep up - they put 30,000 miles on it in six months! When the car died, the family’s options were limited and their jobs were in danger. That’s when Lucy and her friends stepped in.

Lucy and her friends

Over the span of 6+ weeks, these three ladies and their families took shifts to make sure the family was able to get to and from work and not lose their jobs. At the same time, they advocated for Peter with OnRamp DFW to help the family solve their long-term transportation challenge.

What a blessing it was for OnRamp DFW to come alongside these folks and enhance the goodness they were already sharing with this family! What an encouragement to see their willingness to sacrifice in order to love Peter’s family and introduce them to Jesus.

Thank you to everyone who gave of their expertise, finances, and/or encouragement to help us make this gift happen!

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up.” Galatians 6:9

*The client’s name was changed to protect him and his family.
