Ashley’s resourcefulness and initiative led the way when hardship struck.

This single mom took action when domestic violence threatened her family.

Ashley is client #25 and is another inspiring single mom who wouldn’t allow her circumstances to command her and her kids’ lives. When domestic violence developed at home, she leaned on her faith in Jesus while summoning the courage to take her four kids and flee to safety in DFW, uncertain how she would make ends meet for her large family.

She immediately set about finding work and pursuing her bachelor’s degree - knowing that education was a key to finding higher-quality jobs, even though no one in her family had graduated college before. But this of course meant juggling a schedule of multiple jobs AND college course material, all while raising four teenagers. Ashley, undaunted, rolled up her sleeves and got busy. When she completed her degree, she went on to pursue her Master’s, a goal she is still working toward.

Ashley’s advocate Taneesha, from Buckner Family Pathways, said Ashley is a clear standout in their program, especially with how she finds a way to keep moving forward and leads others in the program to do the same. “Ashley isn’t afraid to ask for help, but while she’s waiting, she’s out working to make things happen for her family”, said Taneesha.

Taneesha brags on Ashley at the giveaway.

We were thrilled to give Ashley a 2007 Toyota Camry in great shape that was lovingly donated to us by a local couple. The couple said they thought about selling their longtime family car vs. giving it away, and ultimately chose to give it to OnRamp DFW to help someone else with a hand up. We continue to be amazed by the sacrificial generosity of our neighbors, and are encouraged that you are behind us as we look to help more people in DFW like Ashley.

More than anything, we are glad to represent Jesus on such days, when we can confidently proclaim that God sees us in our situations, loves us, and providentially involves others to provide for our tangible needs.
