OnRamp DFW serves a wide demographic of clients from single parents, to refugees, to those stuck in cycles of poverty, and more. A typical client is someone who does not have reliable transportation, and for a variety of reasons is unable to obtain it. This may mean they don’t have a car, or it may mean that public transportation is not a viable option for their work/family needs.
This lack of reliable transportation is keeping them from self-sufficiency, meaning they cannot get to work, doctors appointment, the grocery store, etc. without depending on others to get them there.
Potential clients must be nominated by a qualified Advocate (see next FAQ for details) and meet all of the following qualifications:
Nominee has a full time job (30+ hours per week). (in limited situations, exceptions to this rule may be granted, but please contact us before proceeding).
Nominee is at least two years sober from any drug or alcohol addiction (in limited situations, exceptions to this rule may be granted, but please contact us before proceeding).
Nominee is at least two years past any imprisonment, parole, or probation (in limited situations, exceptions to this rule may be granted, but please contact us before proceeding).
Nominee has a valid driver’s license with an up-to-date address.
Nominee lives in one of the following 4 counties: Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Rockwall County.
Nominee has the ability to procure and pay for car insurance.
Nominee has positive monthly net income of at least $300 taking all income sources and debts into account.
Nominee or nominee’s immediate family does not already have a vehicle (in limited situations, exceptions to this rule may be granted, but we generally do not give 2nd cars to families. Please contact us before proceeding).

An Advocate is someone who has been professionally caring for a nominee in some capacity for at least 6 months. This could be a case manager, social worker, pastor, etc.
Advocates must be able to vouch for the character and determination of the nominee, and must be willing to help them continue to meet future goals.
You can find a detailed description of an advocate by clicking the following link www.onrampdfw.org/advocate but below is a shortened reference to our qualifications:
You are not related to the nominee, nor simply a friend, co-worker, or neighbor.
You are professionally caring for your nominee in some way.
You have known the nominee for at least 6 months.
You’ve confirmed your nominee has a valid drivers’ license and lives in one of these counties: Dallas County, Collin County, Tarrant County or Rockwall County.
You’ve confirmed your nominee has positive monthly cash flow ($300/month surplus) to afford gas and insurance for a car.
You can commit to continued investment in your nominee’s life for a full year after the vehicle donation to ensure they stay focused on their goals & work hard to accomplish them.

Working with trusted Advocates helps ensure that the vehicles we gift are making a long-term impact in people’s lives.
Advocates do two things for us. First, they help us identify people in our community who are already on their journey to self-sufficiency, but for whom reliable transportation remains one of the final barriers to meeting their goals.
Second, advocates provide on-going help and support to our clients who often need just as much care and encouragement as they do a vehicle. Since a qualified advocate is someone who has already been working with and supporting our clients prior to their acceptance in our program, we can be confident that the car is going to someone who has holistic support.

From nomination to donation, the process can take anywhere from 3-6 months. However a variety of factors play into this timeline and your situation may differ.

All approved clients receive 1 full year of car maintenance on their gifted car! OnRamp DFW covers 90% of these costs while the client covers the other 10%. This is possible due to the generous donations of our financial partners as well as the incredible partnerships we have with local mechanics and auto shops.
However, outside of the cars that we give away, we do not provide car repairs. If you are looking for help with your car repair, reach out to your local mechanic and tell them your situation. There are many shops around DFW that help out people in need.

Yes! OnRamp DFW takes car donations and we would love to receive your car, fix it up, and gift it to someone in need in our community. We believe donating a used vehicle to a neighbor in need brings a higher return than trading it in! Plus it comes with a tax benefit.
The process is easy and simple. If your vehicle is currently running and driving, and is in reasonably sound mechanical condition, we can use it! Please visit the following link to begin your donation. https://www.onrampdfw.org/donate#vehicle
